We're joining Pride Glasgow festival for sixth year in a row

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Many of our staff are again joining the Pride Glasgow festival, Scotland’s largest Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) celebration this weekend at the city’s Kelvingrove Park.

Though the emphasis is on fun, there is a serious side. LGBTI people still experience persecution and discrimination. There are countries where being in a same-sex relationship is considered a serious crime and in a few it’s punishable by death.

We will be celebrating its sixth year at Pride Glasgow on Saturday and Sunday 15 July by talking with festival goers about the range of services available and capturing people’s experiences of using health services.

The clinical team will be offering sexual health screening which comprises of testing for HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia. In addition, staff will be promoting the Free Condom service with a full range of condoms and lubricants available.

Alastair Low, planning manager, said: “We have found attending Pride Glasgow to be a very worthwhile experience over the years as people are keen to talk with us. We aim to be a listening organisation and learn from the feedback we get from engaging with people.

“The Sandyford Sexual Health Services will be on site to promote its services to everyone, but with an emphasis on providing information on the service to young people in particular.

“Our Steve Retson Project will promote its specialist sexual health service for gay, bi-sexual and men who have sex with men. For the fourth year, this will include free and confidential STI testing from a specialist unit on-site.

“The Equality and Human Rights Team will be capturing people’s experiences as patients and chatting through opportunities to make improvements and share their good practice.

“Staff from our HR and volunteering services will also be in attendance to discuss employment and volunteering opportunities across the health board.

“We’re keen to meet as many people as possible over the weekend. We promise a warm welcome and will be happy to answer any questions people have.”
