Team Brief 2017

Team Brief is the monthly communication to all staff from the Chief Executive which is cascaded throughout the organisation to give local managers the opportunity to add to the core corporate messages and localise them. A feedback facility ensures that Team Brief addresses the issues raised by staff.

A full archive of Team Brief is available on StaffNet (you must be on the NHS network to access).

Team Brief - April 2019

Flying the flag for NHSGGC

Congratulations to the Beatson team who have been awarded Centre of Excellence status from the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society for their work in developing services to treat and care for patients with this type of tumour.

The Glasgow centre, which serves patients from all over the West of Scotland, is one of only 50 centres of excellence in the world and is the first in Scotland.

Another team of colleagues who are to be congratulated is the Prescribing Support Team at Glasgow City’s south sector who won the Working in Partnership award hosted by the Scottish Pharmacist Magazine.

Two individual colleagues also deserving recognition for achievement are Rachel Smythe who completed our Get Into Healthcare Programme with the support of the Prince’s Trust and was presented with a “Rising Star Award” by HRH Prince Charles at the London Palladium; and Paul Hull for his commendable work to break down communication barriers for the deaf and was honoured at the Scottish Sensory and Equality Awards in Glasgow.

It’s great to be able to celebrate such high levels of professionalism and dedication – and it’s why the excitement is already building following the launch of our 2019 Chairman’s Awards.

The online nominations system is now open and ready to accept your suggestions and recommendations for the seven categories. You will know of colleagues who best deserve recognition for their work so please use this link to remind yourself of the categories and of how to nominate

Update on Annual Review

Following the public session of our Annual Review in mid-March we issued a Core Brief to all staff summarising the topics discussed and highlights from a lively question and answer session.

What I would like to share with you here is a flavour of the feedback from the Cabinet Secretary in a private session later that day which was encouraging and supportive.

The sessions the Cabinet Secretary had with the Area Clinical Forum, Area Partnership Forum and the Patient/Carer representatives showed many areas of good engagement and positive comments across a broad range of areas including joint approaches to problem solving and working together to inform and influence our Moving Forward Together programme.

Many issues of continued challenge were raised but overall the discussions across a wide range of issues were constructive and together we need to remain focussed on our key objectives and challenges as we move forward.

The Cabinet Secretary also acknowledged the excellent work being carried out locally but emphasised the need for the Board to continue to make progress to improve performance in a number of areas. She recognised the efforts, professionalism and commitment of the Board and our staff and expressed her gratitude for this.

Let’s get engaged

I am firmly supportive of strengthening staff engagement and recent discussions with the Area Partnership Forum (APF) have encouraged meaningful dialogue about how this can be achieved right across the organisation. We already have a highly skilled NHS workforce delivering great clinical outcomes for our patients but I am of the belief that we can achieve even more through better team working, improved engagement and communications.

Following a recent request from the APF, the Employee Director and I have decided as an immediate step to ensure that more of our reactive statements issued to media and others - in response to issues raised with us - are shared proactively with staff. We already share proactive public and media statements with our staff and Board members but this extra measure will deliver more transparency and visibility.

If you have a good idea about how staff engagement and involvement could be improved please let me know – I’d look forward to hearing from you.
